These infections can have serious consequences for the patient such as peritonitis, loss of the catheter and drop-out from this dialysis method.
In addition to proper catheter management, which is the basic approach for preventing infections, numerous experiences have been reported in literature that use advanced dressings with silver ions that aim to stabilize the exit-site through “continuous” disinfection, in order to reduce the incidence of catheter site infections and improve management of patients on dialysis.
